After graduating from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Khulna University of Engineering & Technology and successfully defending his thesis in August, Irhamul Islam started his career as an Associate Data Analyst at Commure on September 2. From his university life, he developed a strong interest in data analytics and problem-solving. His academic journey helped him build a solid foundation in programming, databases, and data analysis, while his projects gave him hands-on experience working with real-world datasets, dashboards, and backend systems.

Irhamul enjoys working with data to uncover meaningful insights, explain trends to non-technical stakeholders, and develop solutions that are both accurate and impactful. Alongside analytics, he has experience with SQL, Python, data visualization tools, and collaborative project environments. At Commure/Augmedix, he is continuing to sharpen these skills in a professional setting.

He applied for the role through LinkedIn. According to Irhamul, the recruitment process was smooth, structured, and fast-paced. The entire process consisted of several phases.

Phase 1 - CV Review & Shortlisting

The process started with CV screening, where the HR team shortlisted candidates based on their academic background, analytical abilities, and relevant experience.

Phase 2 - Take-home Online Assessment (Retool-based)

Shortlisted candidates received a take-home assessment with a deadline of around 1–2 days. Since Commure/Augmedix operates in the health-tech industry and deals with medical data, the assessment was also healthcare-focused.

The assessment involved a case-based problem where candidates were expected to:

  • Use SQL extensively to explore datasets and identify the root cause of the problem
  • Build dashboards in Retool for structured and clear data visualization
  • Present findings by explaining the problem, solution, and expected impact
  • Demonstrate strong analytical thinking throughout the task
  • Focus on dashboard UX, visuals, and workflow logic

Phase 3 - HR Screening Call

After successfully submitting the assessment, shortlisted candidates received a short HR screening call of around 10 minutes. This phase mainly evaluated communication skills, professionalism, and clarity of thought. All communication throughout the recruitment process was conducted in English.

Phase 4 - Technical Interview

The technical interview mainly revolved around the submitted assessment. Candidates were expected to explain their analytical approach, SQL queries, and dashboard design decisions clearly. Interviewers could also ask candidates to modify parts of their solution or solve additional SQL problems during the session.

According to Irhamul, this phase could include:

  • SQL tests conducted either during the interview or as a separate round
  • In-depth discussions about the assessment, including how the root cause was identified, the proposed solution, and its expected impact
  • Detailed explanations of Retool dashboards, including how queries, filters, and visual components were connected
  • Questions about Retool Workflows and how workflows could automate tasks such as monitoring data, refreshing results, or resolving recurring issues
  • Presentation of findings in a way that both technical and non-technical audiences could understand
  • Questions based on previous experiences and projects mentioned in the CV
  • Discussions about future career goals
  • Logical or brain-teaser questions to evaluate analytical thinking and problem-solving ability

Phase 5 - Final HR Round / Offer

After successfully completing the interview stages, candidates either went through a final HR discussion or directly received an offer letter.

Overall, Irhamul described the recruitment process as well-organized and efficient. Candidates usually did not have to wait long between stages, and the HR team remained responsive and supportive throughout the entire journey.
