Tafseer Binte Mannan graduated in Computer Science from BRAC University in 2023. She began her professional journey with an internship at Robi Axiata Limited, where she gained her first exposure to the corporate and technical work environment.
Following her internship, she joined mPower Social Enterprises Ltd. as a Software Engineer. During her nearly two years there, she primarily focused on backend development using Java and worked on building scalable backend solutions while strengthening her analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Currently, she is working as a Data Operations Analyst at Commure, where her responsibilities involve SQL, JavaScript, QA, AI tools, and AI-powered automation features. This role enabled her to transition into a more dynamic technical environment that combines data operations, automation, and software-driven problem-solving. She also collaborates closely with teams based in both Bangladesh and the United States, which has significantly enhanced her communication and collaboration skills in an international work setting.
Tafseer enjoys working with data, understanding how systems operate behind the scenes, and solving complex problems through coding and automation. She approaches challenges with focus, dedication, and a continuous willingness to learn. Her passion for coding and technology has remained consistent throughout her career journey.
She applied for the role at Commure through LinkedIn.
The hiring process consisted of three online rounds.
Round 1 – Retool-Based Case Study
The first round was a take-home assessment based on Retool. Candidates were given three separate tasks and asked to choose one.
For her selected task, Tafseer built a dashboard in Retool using both SQL and JavaScript. The assessment also included an automation component using Retool Workflows. She implemented an automated scheduled email reporting system where a properly formatted email containing real-time data and dashboard summaries would be sent automatically to a designated email address at a scheduled time.
After completing the project, she recorded a 3–5 minute Loom demo explaining the workflow, dashboard functionality, and automation process.
Round 2 – Coding Assessment
The second round was entirely coding-focused and based on Python.
The task involved building an HL7 SIU Appointment Parser capable of decoding HL7 SIU appointment messages into a readable JSON format. One of the major requirements was that external HL7 parsing libraries were not allowed, meaning the parser had to be implemented manually from scratch.
In addition to building the parser, she also wrote unit tests covering:
- Correct parsing of valid SIU messages
- Handling of missing fields
- Malformed input scenarios
There was also a bonus challenge to create a Dockerfile capable of building and running the parser, which she attempted successfully.
Round 3 – Virtual Hiring Manager Interview
The final round was an online interview with the hiring team.
During the session, Tafseer shared her screen and demonstrated both take-home assessments. The interviewers asked detailed questions regarding her implementation decisions, technical approach, and overall problem-solving process.
She also had the opportunity to learn more about the company’s technologies, team structure, and onboarding process. According to her, the discussion was friendly, interactive, and technically engaging.
Within 3–4 days after the final interview, she received confirmation regarding the outcome of the process.
Note: The role operates on a night-shift schedule due to close collaboration with the US-based team. Working hours are from 10 PM to 7 AM, Monday through Friday, and holidays follow the US holiday calendar.
