Recruitment Stories - Sayem's Experience at Hogarth Dhaka

Abu Sayem Khan is currently working at Hogarth Dhaka as a DevOps Engineer. He completed his B.Sc. in Information and Communication Engineering from Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) in 2022.

Sayem applied for the role at Hogarth Dhaka through LinkedIn and went through the following recruitment phases:

Phase 1

The initial phase focused heavily on cloud technologies. Sayem was asked about services like AWS EC2, S3, EBS, EKS, ECS, RDS, and Docker. The interviewers evaluated his understanding of deploying applications on the cloud and how these services could be leveraged to build and manage a microservices-based architecture.

Phase 2

In this round, the questions centered on Terraform and other Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools. Sayem had to explain how to build and deploy applications using these tools. He was also asked about strategies for taking database backups and storing them in cold storage, as well as his approach to monitoring application and infrastructure health on a daily or weekly basis. The interview also covered application security, including accessing private servers securely and protecting public-facing servers.

Phase 3

The final technical phase resembled a system design interview. Topics included how to load balance applications during peak hours, perform application rollbacks, and effectively manage clusters in EKS. Sayem also discussed his knowledge of disaster recovery planning, the importance of database read replicas, and strategies for database recovery in case of failure.

Phase 4

The final round was an HR discussion focused on salary structure, benefits, and document verification.

Sayem prepared diligently for the interview process. He took online courses such as:

• Terraform for Beginners and CKA Exam Preparation on KodeKloud
• Ultimate AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate by Stephane Maarek on Udemy
