Md. Farhan Islam Pavel is currently a 4th year, 2nd semester student at the Institute of Information Technology, Jahangirnagar University. As part of his mandatory internship course in the 4th year, 1st semester, he completed a five-month internship at Samsung R&D Institute Bangladesh (SRBD). Alongside his academic journey, he has solved over 1500 coding problems across various competitive programming platforms. He has also actively participated in hackathons, including Code Samurai 2024, becoming a finalist in seven hackathons and winning two project showcase competitions.
He applied to SRBD through a referral on LinkedIn. He reached out to a senior member of the company through LinkedIn and requested a referral. After sending his resume, he received an interview call approximately one month later.
The recruitment process consisted of the following phases:
Phase 1: CV Screening
The first step was CV screening. He ensured that his resume clearly highlighted his academic background, projects, competitive programming achievements, and hackathon experiences.
Phase 2: Technical Interview
The interview included a coding problem along with questions on computer science fundamentals. He was asked to solve the LeetCode Easy problem “Invert a Binary Tree” on paper. Prior to the interview, he had practiced LeetCode Easy and Medium problems extensively. Since SRBD places significant emphasis on graph, tree, and backtracking problems, he focused particularly on those topics during his preparation.
In addition to coding, he was asked theoretical questions on Object-Oriented Programming, including the four pillars of OOP, as well as the differences between Git and GitHub. To prepare for these, he reviewed the core concepts beforehand. The interviewers also discussed his projects, the challenges he faced while building them, and how he overcame those challenges. He prepared for this section by reflecting on his own experiences and practicing how to explain them clearly and confidently.
He received his selection result within seven days, and there were no additional HR or further interview rounds afterward.
Special thanks to Md. Farhan Islam Pavel for taking out the time to share his recruitment experience with me. If you have any queries, feel free to contact him at farhanpavel3@gmail.com
