Avik Sarkar is currently working at Google as a Test Engineer. He completed his BSc in Information and Communication Technology from Comilla University.

Avik began his career as a Test Engineer at Samsung Research and Development Institute Bangladesh (SRBD). At Samsung, he was responsible for test planning, defect tracking, automation, and ensuring a smooth software experience for Samsung appliance users.

When Avik decided to apply to Google, he submitted his application through their career portal. His recruitment process involved multiple stages:

Phase 1: HR Screening

  • He was asked to provide the output of a bubble sort snippet.
  • He answered questions related to STL String methods.
  • He also discussed his past projects.

Phase 2: Technical Screening

  • He solved a data structure problem related to n-based number operations.
  • He was asked to design test cases covering boundary, positive, and negative scenarios.
  • He identified and analyzed corner cases.

Phase 3: Onsite 1

He worked on a DFS traversal problem with given API constraints and was asked to optimize the solution.

Phase 4: Onsite 2

  • He answered questions on UI automation, Appium, automation frameworks, and test planning for smartwatches.
  • He discussed flakiness identification and strategies to mitigate it.

Phase 5: Onsite 3

  • He was asked to create a test plan for a Google product.
  • He defined the scope, proposed an automation strategy, and explained the deployment process.
  • He identified potential bottlenecks, their causes, and success criteria for the proposed solution.

Phase 6: Onsite 4

  • He handled scenario-based questions on conflict resolution, work planning, managerial conflicts, and bug triage.
  • This round assessed his leadership and decision-making skills.

Although some of these were labeled “onsite” interviews, all rounds were conducted online via Google Meet.

Special thanks to Avik Sarkar for taking out the time to share his recruitment experience with me. If you have any queries, feel free to contact him at ssavi.ict@gmail.com
