Recruitment Stories - Anika's Experience at Samsung R&D Institute Bangladesh
Share this

Anika Tahsin Chowdhury is currently working as a Software Engineer at Samsung R&D Institute Bangladesh. She completed her undergraduate studies in Computer Science and Engineering from Leading University. Anika is a programming enthusiast, a former competitive programmer, and a problem setter in national programming competitions such as National Girls’ Programming Contest 2019 and LU CSE Carnival 2019 Inter University Programming Contest.

In this article, I will be sharing Anika’s experience of landing a job at Samsung R&D Institute Bangladesh (SRBD) so that others can benefit from her experience.

During her final semester, Anika began searching for jobs and discovered that SRBD was looking to hire university graduates. At that point, one of her friends was already working at SRBD. Anika contacted him to learn more about the hiring process and during their interaction, Anika’s friend asked her to send him her resume so he could refer her for the job. A few days later, the HR department of SRBD emailed Anika with a form attached to be filled out. Anika replied to the HR with the completed form and was subsequently shortlisted to go through the recruitment process.

The recruitment process consisted of the following phases:

Phase 1: Advanced Test

The Advanced Test consisted of a coding problem to solve within a 3-hour time frame. The topics were basic implementation, searching, BFS, DFS, tree traversal, prefix tree or trie, backtracking, and basic dynamic programming. Anika chose C++ as her programming language for the coding problem, but was informed that she would not be able to use the Standard Template Library of C++.

Thanks to her experience in solving programming problems as preparation for competitive programming, Anika did not need to take any significant additional preparation for the Advanced Test. She simply practiced implementing basic data structures and algorithms without using the Standard Template Library. In addition, she visited the Glassdoor site to gain more insights into the SRBD recruitment process.

Anika passed the Advanced Test and was invited to the next phase of the recruitment process.

Phase 2: Interview with the HR and Technical persons

During this phase, Anika was asked both non-technical and technical questions. The non-technical questions mostly pertained to her background and interests. In terms of technical questions, Anika was asked about her approach to solving the coding problem that appeared in the Advanced Test. She was also questioned about topics such as linked lists, substring matching, binary search trees, basic OOP concepts, and the projects she mentioned in her resume.

Fortunately, Anika’s interview went well and she was invited to participate in the final phase of the recruitment process.

Phase 3: Medical Check-up

Anika passed the medical check-up with flying colors because she was in good health. Soon after this, she received an email notifying her that she had been selected for the job.

Special thanks to Anika Tahsin Chowdhury for taking out the time to share her recruitment experience with me. If you have any queries, feel free to contact her at anikachy4@gmail.com
