Often, the most neglected area for job interview preparation is job interview etiquette. However, this is a fundamental and vital assessment metric for a job interview. So, in this post, I will share a few etiquette essentials that will help you make your mark in the interview.
-
Be there on time. This shows that you are serious about the job and that you are punctual. Also, interviewers are usually ready for the interview 5-10 minutes prior to the scheduled time. So, you must not make them wait for you.
-
Speak in the language the interviewer is speaking to you. If your interviewer is speaking in English and asking you question in English, so you should answer in English as well. This demonstrates your sensibility.
-
Be polite and respectful in your words and through body language. Your behavior and gesture represent you and give an indication of whether you are suitable to work in a collaborative working environment.
-
Turn your mobile phone off. Your ringing mobile phone is a distraction during the interview and may irritate the interviewers. So, better safe than sorry.
-
Do not speak more than necessary. If you speak endlessly, it brings a negative impression of you to the interviewers. Try to answer to the point and if you are unaware of any answer, inform that honestly.
-
Dress appropriately. While appearing for an interview, bear in mind that it is a professional interaction and so dress up accordingly.
-
Avoid bad-mouthing your former associations. You may have experienced a toxic environment in your previous associations, but refrain from the temptation to speak badly about them. Instead, talk about how you grew from those experiences and what initiatives you had taken. Try to show your problem-solving aspect.
