Recruitment Stories - Minul's Experience at Craftsmen Ltd.
~2 min read
Md. Minul Islam Shovon is currently working as a Software Development Engineer I at Craftsmen Ltd. He has completed his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering from Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology. During his undergraduate studies, Minul invested some time in competitive programming. However, he completely shifted his focus to software development later on. In the year 2020, Minul did a remote internship, the experience of which helped him a lot while facing any interviews.
Minul got to know about the opportunity at Craftsmen through a LinkedIn post. From there, he learned about the company’s career page. Afterward, Minul sent an email with his resume attached to the concerned person as mentioned on the career page. He then went through the following recruitment phases before accepting the job offer:
Phase 1: Online Assessment
Few days after sending his resume, Minul received an email invitation from Craftsmen to take the online assessment. There was nothing mentioned regarding the nature of the online assessment apart from the level of complexity. So, Minul did not have any clue about the content of the assessment and he had to solely rely on his intuition and his problem solving experience for the preparation.
In the assessment, Minul was given a base64 encoded url. His task was to decode the url. The decoded url pointed to a form that Minul needed to fill up to advance to the next phase of recruitment. Since Minul had experience solving a similar kind of task in Python during his internship, this assessment turned out to be easy and familiar for him.
Phase 2: On-site Assessment
Again for this phase, Minul did not have any clue about the content of the assessment. However, he was informed about the possible sectors the questions could come from. In the assessment, the questions were from the topics: ad-hoc, graph, tree, and disjoint-set union.
Phase 3: Online Interview
This was a technical and an HR interview combined. In the technical portion, there were discussions mainly from the on-site assessment that Minul took. As for the HR portion, there were discussions about different perks and policies of the company.
Special thanks to Md. Minul Islam Shovon for taking out the time to share his recruitment experience with me. If you have any queries, feel free to contact him at mainulislam588@gmail.com
