Recruitment Stories - Zeba's Experience at Robi Axiata Limited

   ~3 min read

Zeba Farzana is currently a Graduate Trainee for Channel Operations at Robi Axiata Limited. She completed her Bachelor of Business Administration from the Institute of Business Administration, University of Dhaka. During her undergraduate years, Zeba participated in several business competitions and became the Divisional Champion for Dhaka Division of Bangladesh Youthfest 2016 in the Women Entrepreneurship Ideas category.

In this article, I will be sharing Zeba’s experience of landing a job at Robi Axiata Limited so that others can gain insights.

Zeba applied for the role through Robi Axiata Limited’s Graduate Trainee Program, which she found out about through their official LinkedIn page. Out of a huge volume of applicants, only 120 made it to the preliminary assessment, and Zeba was one of them.

Phase 1: Preliminary Assessment

During the preliminary assessment, candidates were instructed to provide spontaneous answers without much thought. The purpose of this assessment was to discover the personality traits of the candidates and determine if they would be a good fit for the organization.

This assessment took the following forms:

  1. Games: to examine the candidate’s response time, numerical skills, dexterity, pattern identification, memory, and more.
  2. Scenario-based questions: to examine the candidate’s ability in time management, leadership, problem-solving, decision-making, and other related skills.

Zeba successfully cleared this assessment and was selected for the next phase of the recruitment process.

Phase 2: Intense Assessment

Only 60 candidates were selected for the intense assessment.

During this phase, each candidate was instructed to provide a 2-minute long elevator pitch. The interviewers selected the 10 best ideas and divided all of the candidates into 10 teams, with the best idea generator as the leader of each team. The teams were tasked with transforming their ideas into complete digital business solutions.

This assessment was similar to the case competitions that business students are familiar with. There was time pressure and stress due to the overall environment. Interviewers constantly scrutinized how well candidates mingled with their team members and participated in discussions. Thus, it was not just about what was presented, but also how it was prepared.

Almost all of the candidates passed this assessment and were selected to move on to the next phase of the recruitment process.

Phase 3: Primary Interview

During the primary interview, which was conducted by the department heads of Robi Axiata Limited, Zeba was asked about the role she wanted to take up in the company and some other general questions. Approximately 30 candidates were eliminated after this phase.

Phase 4: Final Interview

The final interview was conducted by the top-level management, who are referred to as CXOs in Robi. It was a simple interview intended to get to know the candidates.

Zeba’s final interview went well, and she was eventually offered a position at Robi Axiata Limited.
